Dr. Paul Edwards is the distinguished Cornelius McCole Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, the flagship of the Henry Ford Health System. As Department Chair he is in charge of 31 Ophthalmologists, 6 basic researchers and 2 non-MD practitioners, 15 residents and 4 clinical fellows, one of the busiest Ophthalmology departments in the Midwest. He has guided the department in the development of innovative clinical care and research and teaching programs. Dr Edwards is a retina specialist, who is also active in basic and clinical research at the hospital. He was appointed Professor of Ophthalmology at Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan in 2010. Dr Edwards received his medical training at the University of the West Indies and following years in General Surgery training, he completed a fellowship at the National Eye Institute and then Ophthalmology residency and fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital. He was appointed to the staff in 1993. Dr Edwards is noted for many medical publications and his service to many professional organizations. His professional credentials include: Fellow, American Academy of Ophthalmology; Fellow, American College of Surgeons; Diplomat, American Board of Ophthalmology; Member, American Society of Retina Specialists; Member, American Medical Association; Member, National Medical Association; Member, Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology; Member, Wayne County Medical Society; Member, Michigan Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons; Member, Ophthalmological Society of the West Indies; Member, International Society of Eye Research; Member, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology; Member, Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology; Member, European Society of Vision and Eye Research and Member, American College of Physician Executives.

He is recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Hour Magazine, Detroit continuously since 2003, Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care since 1994, Consumer Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologist since 2002 and Castle–Connoly Best Doctors in America since 2005. He was recognized among the top 1% of Ophthalmologists in the United States as a US News & World Reports’ Top Doctor in 2011. He serves on the Board of Directors of Leader Dogs for the Blind, Student Mentor Partners and A Night for Sight
